MAC Attack

The Mid-American Conference tournament begins Monday from Cleveland. The MAC is a well-balanced, top-10 Conference. That said, barring a loss by Buffalo at some point next week, this will probably be a 1-bid league.

As mentioned before, Buffalo is the big dog in the tournament. A top-25 squad in the polls and KenPom. They finished 16-2 in the league and 28-3 overall with wins over Syracuse and West Virginia amongst others. Brian has them as a 6-seed in his latest bracket and are a bona fide Final 4 squad.

Toledo is also a top-100 KenPom team. Coached by former UWGB coach, Tod Kowalczyk, the Rockets are 54th overall. They went 25-6 overall and 13-5 in league play. They were swept by Buffalo in the regular season, losing by 30 in Buffalo and by 6 at home. After a bit of a stumble in mid-February, they’ve won 5 straight.

Bowling Green is the 3-seed and Kent State the 4-seed.  Akron finished 8-10 in league but finished the year with the 3rd best KenPom numbers. Bowling Green was 2-spots behind them. Bowling Green is one of two teams along with Northern Illinois with wins over Buffalo this year.

The Pick: Buffalo- I’d like to see an upset to steal a bid from some garbage major mediocrity, Buffalo is clearly the best team
