Big East Bubbling

The Big East starts their tournament at MSG on Wednesday as many of their membership scrambled along the bubble. Villanova is the 1-seed and Marquette the 2-seed. Both are locks and both have looked bad in the last few weeks. It’s been that kind of year.

St. John’s puked all over themselves, losing their last 3 to go from in to who the hell knows. They’re 74th in KenPom and play DePaul on Wednesday. Seems promising as a win would get them Marquette but, DePaul beat St. John’s last Sunday.

Seton Hall is the 3-seed and probably played their way in with wins over Marquette and Villanova last week but I wouldn’t lose to Georgetown, the 6-seed. Oh yeah, the Hoyas themselves have gotten on the bubble and have to win that game. The loser of the 4-5 game, Creighton and Xavier probably are eliminated from tourney consideration. All these bubble teams are between 49 and 74 in KenPom. It’s not a great group of teams who would all probably be play-in types.

The Pick: Marquette - They’ve lost 4 in a row and are looking at St. John’s. I’m picking them because the fan base is a miserable group and I’d like to see them begrudgingly be happy for a day
