Big XII Enters New Territory

It’s hard to believe, but we have a new conference champion in the Big XII. Texas Tech and Kansas State ended the reign of Kansas and split the regular season title. The tournament is played in Kansas City.

Kansas State has the 1-seed, Tech the 2-seed. Tech is 8 in KenPom and KSU 22nd. Tech is a Final 4 type team. Kansas is the 3-seed and 17th in KenPom. They could win it or lose to 6-seed Texas in the quarterfinals.

Baylor and Iowa State are the 4 and 5 seeds and should be comfortably in the tournament as one will not make it to the semifinals. Texas was in Brian’s last bracket. If the lose to Kansas is the quarters, they’ll finish 16-16 overall with 3 straight losses. Lose and they’re out. It’s a big game.

TCU and Oklahoma are in need of wins as well. Both finished 7-11 in league play. OU is 36th in KenPom and TCU 48th. Oklahoma opens against West Virginia and gets TTU next if they lose. Can’t see them making it on if they lose to WVU. TCU opens against Oklahoma State. It’s another game where the bubble team can’t lose. TCU would have a chance to probably lock a bid if they could win the opener and knock off K-State in the quarters.

The Pick: Texas Tech- This is the best team in the league. There are a lot of bubble games of importance. Big week in KC.
