Eric's Elite Eight

We're only two weeks from Selection Sunday and here are who I feel are the 8 best teams in America at the moment.

1. Kentucky - It's Kentucky and then everyone else. The gap is huge. The offense is catching up to the defense and  the defense is better than any other. Forget Virginia. The Wildcats are better on defense and it leads to offense. They're not as good as the 2012 team but it's close.

2. Arizona - The win last night over Utah solidified this Wildcat team as the best in the west. They may not get a 1-seed because of some weird losses but if Sean Miller doesn't make a Final 4 this year, I'm not sure when he will.

3. Villanova - The antithesis to Kentucky, the 3rd Wildcat team in my list is humming along beautifully. They may have a flaw but I'm not sure what it is.

4. Duke - The defense scares me. That said, I love the play the back court is providing. Okafor is a beast but is a liability at the line.  Will be interesting how they manage that late in games. But they won at Wisconsin and Virginia.

5. Gonzaga - The Zags have been on cruise control and it caught up to them last night. BYU is a better team than where they'll get seeded. Zags won't get a 1-seed but let's see if that doesn't help them. Sleep on them if you dare.

6. Virginia - I don't buy this team. They've feasted on the soft underbelly of the ACC. I only put them in here because of the numbers.

7. Wichita State- The Shockers continue to roll, winning the Valley regular season title. A better conference this year, it shouldn't be dismissed. A lot of teams not as good will be seeded ahead of them. Size is a concern but the guards are electric.

8. Wisconsin- Still a crazy, efficient offense, it has stagnated a bit as the outside shots have slowed a bit. They're a deficient defensive team like Duke that has benefited recently from playing bad offensive teams. Can still get a 1-seed in the West and avoid Kentucky.
