Bracket Buster: Valpo

The Crusaders upended UWGB last night to win the Horizon League auto-bid. This is one of the better Valpo teams of recent memory. They currently sit 66th overall in KenPom, 128th on O and 33rd on D.

The Crusaders make their bones on defense. They hold teams to an effective fg% of 44.9%, 24th best overall. From 2, teams only shoot 42%, 14th best. They do a nice job keeping teams off the offensive glass, 39th best defensive rebounding % and can guard without fouling.

They're not as efficient on offense. They have a decent effective fg% of 51.4%, 71st overall and shoot 38% from 3, 38th best. They are good at crashing the offensive glass. They have an offensive rebounding % of 35% which is 38th best. They are sloppy with the ball and will give it to the opposition.

Sophomore F Alec Peters will likely be the star if they steal a win or two. He shoots 46% from 3 and gets 16.8ppg & 6.8rpg. Guards Tevonn Walker and Darien Walker are other guys to watch.

They don't have any great wins on their resume, though they did rout Murray State on a neutral court.

Valpo defends enough that they'll give a team fits and can shoot the 3. If they're making 3's, especially Peters, a win shouldn't surprise you.
