Bracket Buster: South Dakota State

The Jackrabbits won the Summit League title last night and given their RPI, will probably be a 12 or 13 seed. They really haven't beaten anyone. They won at Minnesota and also at Illinois State and TCU. They also have a win over Weber State. Not daunting, but not bad for a mid-major.

They're 78th overall in KenPom and don't have any numbers that jump off the page. They're a good a very good defensive rebounding team but everything else is pretty okay.

Their best player is a freshman. Big man Mike Daum who averages 15.1ppg and 6.2rpg. He only played 52% of available minutes, so I assumed fouls were an issue but he has only 1 DQ and only 3 games with 4 fouls so it's probably just a freshman legs issue. Kid is 6th in the nation in drawing fouls, so he can get to the line where he shoots 82%. They also have former Badger George Marshall who was run out of Madison by the lecherous Bo Ryan. Marshall averages 15ppg. Fellow senior Deondre Parks joins him in the backcourt and score 14.1ppg. Both are pretty good at protecting the ball.

They have a good, young big man whose game leads me to believe he'll be a name we'll see in the future and solid guard play. That's a decent recipe for a shot at an upset. If they draw a team with a weak back court, that might be their best shot.
