Teams That Collected Bids Last Night:
NEC – FDU
Horizon – Green Bay
Summit – South Dakota State
WCC – Gonzaga
St. Mary’s looks like they are going to stay in the bracket
as an at large due to their top 40 RPI and 6-3 record against the top 100 but we will see. They should not feel comfortable. Hoping to have a new bracket out before noon today.
Bids Going Out Tonight:
Patriot –Holy Cross vs Lehigh. Holy Cross is the 9
seed and has a 13-19 record. Yikes
Conference Tournaments Starting Tonight:
Big East
Favorite – Villanova
The Wildcats can snag a 1 seed should they win out.
Xavier has a slight chance as well. I think Butler is a bubble team if
they lose to Providence.
Big 12
Favorite – Kansas
They are the favorite to win it all and probably have a 1
seed locked up. Oklahoma can get one if they win the conference
tournament. No bubble teams here
Mountain West
Favorite – San Diego State
It’s a 1 bid league unfortunately. SD State’s profile
isn’t that bad. RPI = 44, NCSOS = 5, 4-7 against the top 100
Southland
Favorite – SFA
Finally another low major that gives double byes to the top
seeds. They only need to win 2 games.
Pac 12
Favorite – Utah
Oregon is the 1 seed but Utah is coming on strong. Both
are in the conversation for a 2 or 3 seed. Oregon State and USC need to
avoid losing in the opening round
A-10
Favorite – Pick one
Dayton seems to be the only safe one. St Joe’s, VCU,
and St. Bonaventure are all in the 8-10 seed range so a loss could be
damaging. I feel like committee would be itching to dump an A-10 team for
another Power 5 team. Oh, and would anybody be surprised if George
Washington or Davidson got hot and won the bid themselves?
SEC
Favorite – Kentucky
ESPN would like you to believe Ben Simmons, er, I mean LSU
has a chance but their RPI is 91 which is 20 points higher than the highest RPI
ever given to an at-large. Lots of actual bubble stuff going on here
though. Vandy needs to win its first game to feel comfortable.
South Carolina isn’t 100% either
Big 14
Favorite – Michigan State
Right now any of the top 6 seeds could win this thing.
Michigan needs to make a run to get into the conversation.
