March enters like a Lion

If yesterday is any indication, we are going to have a wild March.  Let's recap:

BIG EAST:
  • Marquette wins a share of the title as Vander Blue lays in the winner at the buzzer in overtime
  • Georgetown thumps Syracuse in what was arguably the worst performance by an Orange team in the Boeheim era.  The game itself was terrible but the post game comments by John Thompson, Jr. were priceless as he called the football schools leaving for the ACC and elsewhere "pimps" and told reporters to "kiss Syracuse goodbye".
HORIZON LEAGUE:
  • UWGB had top seeded Valpo on the ropes when Valpo's Ryan Broekhoff channeled his inner-Bryce Drew and hit a buzzer beating 3 to break the hearts of the Phoenix.
  • Earlier in the night, Wright State's Miles Dixon hit a jumper to beat 2nd seeded and defending tourney champion Detroit at the buzzer.
BIG TEN:
  • No buzzer beaters or titles decided but Minnesota got thumped by Purdue.  They should still be in, but as of now they're the 9 seed in the B1G tournament.  A loss in their opening game will put them squarely on the bubble and Tubby Smith squarely on the hot seat.
PAC 12:
  • Oregon had a horrible loss at Utah allowing UCLA and Ben Howland win the regular season title after they grinded out a win over Washington.
SEC:
  • Missouri solidified themselves as a team everyone wants to play in the tournament losing again on the road at Tennesseee, who in turn, has put themselves squarely on the bubble after struggling early in conference play.
  • Florida gave away the game at Rupp allowing Kentucky to remain in the discussion and raising questions about the Gators inability to close games.
BIG 12:
  • In an attempt to out-SEC the SEC, the Big 12 had a fun day yesterday.  Let's review:
  1. Oklahoma lost to TCU
  2. Kansas got blown out by heretofore disappointing Baylor probably blowing a 1-seed
  3. Kansas State loses to Oklahoma State blowing an opportunity to win the conference outright, though losing at OSU isn't a bad loss but sums up the day
MOUNTAIN WEST:
  • Air Force beats New Mexico likely damaging seeding for the Lobos
  • Fresno State wins at UNLV further exposing the Rebels inconsistency
  • Boise State maybe punches their ticket by beating San Diego State.  It would be the first foray into the tournament for the Broncs
OHIO VALLEY:
  • And finally. in what may have been the game of the day, Belmont overcame a late deficit to defeat Murray State and end anyhopes the Racers had at returning to the tournament.  The game was tied in overtime when the Racers all-everything Isaiah Canaan inexplicably dribbled the ball off his leg into the backcourt forcing an over-and-back call.  Belmont's Kerron Johnson would take advantage and make a shot in the final second to win it
Oh, Duke thumped Huckleberry Roy and his band of mighty mites.  Take a deep breath.  It keeps going this afternoon
