What do we make of Georgetown who confounds with a loss at Rutgers on Sunday? Are they the team that walloped Duke and ran Villanova off the court? Or are they the team that lost to lowly Rutgers, got run by Syracuse and blew a 2nd half lead at home to USF?
The Hoyas have the nations second best SOS and are ranked 8th in RPI. Including a win over Duke, they've beaten Temple, Harvard and Butler. They lost at home to Old Dominion but that's not a bad loss (ODU is 33rd in RPI).
We all know Greg Monroe, but Austin Freeman leads the team in scoring shooting 54% from the field, 47% from beyond the arc...not bad for a guard.
As a team, the Hoyas shoot well from the field and from downtown but only make about 6-7 per game. The defense isn't the standard Hoya buzzsaw. Adjusted Defensive Efficiency is in the high 30s and while the scoring defense and fg defense is top quarter, it's not as good as it was a few years back when they were a legit Final Four team (Not having a 7' 2" C will do that.). While they're a good shot-blocking team (27th) they're an average rebounding team (107th).
The biggest flaw is their propensity to turn the ball over, -1.2 (246th).
They have Syracuse at home on Thursday and still travel to Louisville and West Virginia. And they close the season at home against Cincinnati who could be playing for their tourney lives. I think we'll learn a lot about this team in the next 5 games. Are they a Sweet 16 team or a first weekend donkey? I'm leaning hee-haw but that could change.
