ACC Tournament

The ACC returns to the heart of ACC country on Tuesday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for its conference tournament. Last year, Duke won and then crapped out to South Carolina in the round of 32. The lesson kids? Winning in Brooklyn is dumb.

Anyway, there is quite a lot at play this week. The ACC got a little more bubbly after yesterday’s results and Duke will be playing for a possible 1-seed in the Big Dance.

Syracuse got a needed win over Clemson but is still looking in and is an 11-seed in the ACC. They have to beat Wake Forest and then UNC, the 6-seed. Otherwise, burst bubble city, baby. Let’s hope for that.

Notre Dame will be an interesting case as well. Bonzie Colson is back doing Bonzie Colson stuff. They should handle Pitt who was the nations only team to go winless in league play. That would setup a game against Virginia Tech. I think the Hokies are safe after going 9-9 in league but, a loss to Notre Dame would probably make Buzz sweat a lot more until the selection show.

Louisville draws FSU in the 8-9 game and that feels like a must win for the Cardinal. I know last ten isn’t a criteria anymore but they’re 3-7 and there’s not a lot of meat on that resume. My hunch is, a loss to FSU knocks them out of the Big Dance.

Duke can earn a 1-seed with a good showing. They’ll get the VaTech-ND winner and then if they survive that, probably UNC or Miami. I think if they get 2 wins this week, they can get that 1-seed. Kansas is probably the biggest competition for that last 1-seed. KU can probably earn that last 1-seed by winning the Big XII, 3 good wins but as we’ve seen, who knows what KU shows up.

In a nutshell, a lot is at play this week in Brooklyn. At the end, it’ll probably be Virginia setting up a Cavalier failure in the Big Dance. Also, look at their draw. There’s no reason for them not to be playing in the final.

The Pick: Virginia
