Today's team spotlight is on the Ivy League's contribution to the NCAA Tournament, the Cornell Big Red. As you can see from their logo their team should be called the Cornell Wrench Headed Bears (thanks to Dan and Brad for that one) instead of the Big Red. In all seriousness, this team isn't one to sleep on come tourney time. Already 10-0 in the Ivy league they are 2 wins away from clinching a spot.
Cornell has a solid scoring distribution with 7 players averaging at least 7.5 points per game including 7 foot center Jeff Foote, a transfer from St. Bonaventure. Their other two leading scorers are forward, Ryan Wittman, 15.5, and guard, Louis Dale 12.7. Dale also averages almost 5 rebounds and assists per game. This equal scoring distribution across all positions will cause fits for teams that either lack a solid inside presence or capable guards.
Cornell's body of work suggests that they have a chance of being at least a 14 seed and possibly a 13 if other lower conference tournaments produce upsets. Don't forget 10 years ago when 13 ranked Princeton upset UCLA in the first round....
