Worst loss of the night?
Florida getting shellacked by Arkansas or Wichita State losing to Southern Illinois?
I’m going with Wichita State as Florida was bound to lose at least 1 if not 2 conference games in the SEC. The SEC may not be strong but there clearly is no dominate team this year in college basketball. It should make for a great March Madness. As for Wichita, they are starting to show cracks in their armor. Yes, they have injuries but injuries should account for losses to teams like Creighton and Indiana State and close wins against mid-level MVC teams. It should not account for a loss to 1-10 SIU even if it is on the road. Now, at this point the Shockers are well in the tournament and not near the bubble, but, 1 or 2 more of these and suddenly things aren’t as clear as they used to be.
Lastly, it was another big win for Michigan but I do have a bone to pick with Beilien and quite frankly every other NCAA coach outside of Leonard Hamilton. With 20 second left in regulation Michigan inbounded the ball for the last shot of a tie game. At this point I turned to my 12 year old and told him the ball with never enter the 3 point and Trey Burke will end up taking a 22 foot fade away 3 pointer. Boom, 20 seconds later, it’s a fade away 3 pointer. The same situation and outcome came up during the Murray State-Austin Peay game on Saturday. I do not understand why these coaches don’t instruct their players to drive and maybe draw a foul in addition to either getting a closer shot or kicking to the player from where the double team might come from. This brings up my point on Leonard Hamilton. Last night Florida State was in the same situation as Michigan, a tie game and the last shot. What does Michael Snaer do? Drive and get a 4 foot bank shot layup as time expires. It’s such a huge difference compared to what Trey Burke did and Burke is a better penetrator than Snaer. That’s my rant for the day; I feel better now.
