The ACC starts its conference tournament on Tuesday from beautiful Greensboro. I hope Jom Boeheim can cope.
It hasn’t been a banner year for the ACC. As of now, the top 4 seeds are the only locks for the big dance. NC State is the first four out or last four in according to most brackets. They get the winner of Wake-Pitt and a loss assures them of being left out. A win won’t move the needle much but it’ll give them another shot at Duke. A win in that game would go a long way.
Florida State won the regular season title and is the 1-seed. Virginia, Louisville and Duke fill out the rest of the top 4. Syracuse is the 6-seed and Notre Dame is the 7-seed. Between the two of them, Notre Dame has a more realistic shot at the tournament. Getting past Virginia, the 2-seed, isn’t as daunting as the national media seems to think. They’re still averaging less than a point per possession and in this current winning streak, they’ve only won one game by double digits. Can I bet on them losing on the opening weekend while scoring less than 40? I’d take that bet.
The Pick: Duke
