CAA, SoCon & Summit

CAA

Remember when the CAA rocked? It’s not even called the Colonial anymore! Anyway, the league does have some solid squads.

Charleston won the league and is 103 in KenPom. UNC-Wilmington and Hofstra tied for 3rd and are 114 and 119 in KenPom respectively. Second place finisher Drexel is 123. Anyone of those 4 could be a problem for someone in round one.

The league is dragged down by having 5 teams 300+ in KenPom. The pick is UNC-Wilmington. If the top 4-seeds make the semifinals, be a fun couple of nights of hoops.

SoCon

The SoCon tourney tips tomorrow night in Asheville, NC. Samford won the league by 3 games and is currently 84 in KenPom. Name to remember, Achor Achor.

Western Carolina finished 4th and is 107 in KenPom. UNC-Greensboro and Chattanooga tied for 2nd and are 137 and 148 in KenPom.

I’ll take the potential semi-final winner of Samford and Western Carolina. Either one will be a problem in round one for Illinois. I’ll take Samford since I have to pick one and can’t wait to see Achor Achor.

Summit League

The Summit continues to defy logic and has their tournament tip-off tomorrow from Sioux Falls. C’mon, you have St. Thomas. Move this to the Barn.

Anyway, South Dakota St. won the league title and are 149 in KenPom. St. Thomas finished 4th and is 144 in KenPom. The rest of the league is 200+.  Out of them, UMKC at 212 looks like the best of the lot.

The winner should come from whoever wins the semi-final between St. Thomas and SDSU North. SDSU swept the regular season by a total of 6 points. St. Thomas gets their revenge and takes the bid.
