Conference USA

Conference USA heads to Frisco, TX to play its conference tournament beginning on Wednesday. It could be one of the more entertaining non “Power” league tournaments. Also, I have a bone to pick with some of its members. The top 5 teams in this league should as well.

Middle Tennessee is the 1-seed and 45th in KenPom. Old Dominion is the 2-seed and 64th in KenPom. Middle Tennessee swept the Monarchs during the regular season.

Western Kentucky is the 3-seed and schizophrenic member of the league. They have a win over Purdue but finished the year with double-digit losses to Middle Tennessee and UAB. They gave up 82 and 101 in both those games. They were a fringy bubble team but have to win this tournament to make it.

UAB is the 6-seed but 101st in KenPom. 4-seed Marshall is 120.

This league is brought down by the bottom of the league. Former quality team Charlotte is 316th in KenPom. That’s awful. UTEP is 243. That’s pretty bad for a school with such history. FAU and FIU are 243 and 230 respectively. There’s no reason for those 4 to be so bad. They really kill the league’s chances to get multiple bids. Rice is 295 as well. Southern Miss is 224. There’s potential in this league but those 6 schools need to be more serious about their programs.

The Pick: Old Dominion
