Cincinnati is the 1-seed and has been solidly inside the KenPom Top 10 all season. Wichita is the 2-seed and 17 in KenPom. Houston is the 3-seed and 22nd in KenPom. Those 3 are locks for the tournament. Anyone else from the league needs to win the tournament.
SMU regressed this season and is 87th in KenPom. Schizophrenic Temple is 88th. Temple has wins over ODU, Auburn and Clemson. They have losses to GW and La Salle. They’ve also lost 4 of 5. Tulsa is the 4-seed but 101 in KenPom. That’s behind DePaul. UCF was ravaged by injuries in what was a potentially promising season.
UConn is a mess and that hurts the league. The same is true of Memphis but to the Tigers credit, they managed to finish 10-8 in league despite being 164th in KenPom. Many picked them for last. Won’t get mentioned much but that’s a pretty good coaching job by Tubby Smith. It’s a weird league. The top 3 are Sweet 16 good and Cincinnati and their troll coach are Final 4 good. Then the bottom falls out. What really hurts are the true bottom feeders in this league. USF is 282nd in KenPom and ECU is 309. Those two may never be consistent contenders but being that bad is a detriment to the league.
