It’s still very early in the conference season but it’s time we can look at a couple teams who might be over ranked at this point in time.
1. Louisville – Yes, they are 13-1 with their only loss coming to Kentucky but their Ken Pom Offensive Efficiency sits in the mid-50’s. Their SOS even with the Kentucky game is at 222. They are racking up wins based on defense alone, which isn’t always a bad thing but I don’t think it will be enough to make up for their lack of offense. I don’t think they will fall off the radar but I see them falling to a 4 or 5 seed come March instead of the 1 or 2 they are projected now
2. Notre Dame – I guess we hang in the ACC for now, picking on the new teams. The Irish looked solid beating a very game North Carolina club but that their SOS is in the bottom 5% of the NCAA. Their defense is terrible as well. It’s like the opposite of Louisville. I’ve seen them ranked as high as a 4 seed since they “lead” the ACC right now. There is no way they go through the ACC gauntlet and hang there. Jerian Grant is a beast but he’ll be hanging around the 8-9 seed line when all is said and done.
3. Arkansas – The SEC belongs to Kentucky but with Florida down for the count a lot of prognosticators have the Razorbacks picked as the #2 in the conference. On offense they are definitely efficient but on defense they are deficient. 40 minutes of Hell, this is not. Pair that with another terrible SOS, 264, and you have the makings of team ranked higher than they should be. I think LSU, and eventually Florida leap frog them.
